#bzWhat It's About
This is your dream workshop. A massive work and living space designed to be functional, comfortable, durable, and extremely energy efficient. Join building science expert and Minnesota native Randy Williams, as he walks through the process of planning and executing an 8,700 sq. foot barndominium, designed to weather the harshest Northern winters with minimal impact on the environment. A barndominium is based on a traditional post and frame barn, but updated to a modern, multi-purpose space designed to achieve high performance building standards. This particular build is a wood framed structure featuring 18 ft. side walls, 6’ x 8’ posts 6’ on center, no sheathing, and metal cladding. With a building of this size and shape, the challenge of properly managing the four control layers -- water, air, vapor, and thermal -- becomes that much bigger. Learn about the unique challenges in planning this type of structure, and how Randy’s team approached solving them.
Presented by Rockwool.
